Cathy Freeman: Catherine Freeman, called Cathy

Cathy Freeman:

Catherine Freeman, called Cathy Freeman is Australian former sprinter, who specialised in the 400 meters event.

She was born on 16 February 1973 in Australia. She is Aborigine.

She was a double world champion in 1997 and 1999.

During the 2000 summer Olympic games, she became the Olympic champion for the women 400 meters competition.

 

 

The 2000 summer Olympic games took place in Sydney (Australia) and she lit the Olympic Flame.

She is the first Aborigine that ever compete in the Olympic games.

This is a very strong symbol against racism in Australia and as shown below she associated both flags (Australian and Aboriginal) for her victory.

Touch football:

This sport has a vast following in Australia.

The Touch football comes from Australia.This is a variant of rugby. This is a team sport played with an oval ball.

It brings into conflict two teams of eighteen players in an oval stage

The rules are very strict. They are the following:

  • The aim of the sport is to mark more goals than the opponent team.
  • To do this 6 players of a team can stop the progression of the other one simply by touching the opponent players 
  • Touches can be made on any part of the player or on the ball and are characterized by their softness.
  • Violent contacts are not authorized. 


This sport appeared in the 50s in Australia and the first competition of Touch football took place in Sydney, at the initiative of South Sydney Touch Football Association. Since then, the discipline did not stop growing and matters near about fifty federations worldwide and on all the continents today. In France, there are some clubs.

Tasmanian Devil FIGHT!

The Tasmanian Devil:

The Tasmanian Devil is recognizable by its black fur dotted with white patches on the chest, its big head and its tail in the shape of cylinder. Males are approximately 65 cms and weigh on average 8 kg, whereas females are 57 cms, for 6 kgs. Forelegs of this animal are slightly longer than its hind legs. On its mouth and on the head are long hairs vibrisses which allow him to detect its preys in the darkness, as well as the other devils. This aniaml can be found only in Tasmania. It only lives in the forest. 

The Tasmania Devil is carnivorous, feeding on mammals. The Tasmania Devil shout is a strong and scary howling. The name Tasmania devil comes from this howling. When he is anxious, the Tasmania Devil gives off a stong smell as a means of intimidation.

The Sydney Opera has been built in 10 years as from 1963.

The architect who has built the Sydney Opera is Jorn Utzon

The Sydney Opera has taken a very long time to be built : more than 10 years and they had to use many dollars which were paid by the city.

The Sydney Opera is composed of 5 theatres, five studios of repetition, two big entrance halls, four restaurants, six bars, and multiple souvenirs stores.
